Candid, Documentary Wedding Photography and Videography in Sarasota, FL
I'm Mark Davidson, a documentary wedding photographer and videographer based in Sarasota, Florida, with nearly 20 years of experience covering weddings.
I don't direct your day. I document it. Real moments, real emotions, honest storytelling. No stiff poses, no forced smiles, no "look at me and laugh" prompts. Just your wedding as it actually felt.
If you're looking for a Sarasota wedding photographer who blends into your day, captures what matters, and delivers images that look like your memories, you're in the right place.
What Is Documentary Wedding Photography ?
Most Sarasota wedding photographers will tell you they shoot "candid." But then they spend hours posing as the day slips away
Documentary wedding photography style is different. You experience celebrating your wedding day. While I observe. I anticipate. I capture the in-between moments — the ones you didn't plan for and can't recreate. Your dad seeing you in your dress for the first time. Reactions from the humor in your best friend's toasts.
Why Photo + Video Together
I offer hybrid wedding coverage, photography and videography from one person, one calm presence, one storytelling approach.
Most couples hire a photographer and a separate videographer. That means two teams, two contracts, two sets of strangers in your space. With hybrid coverage, you get both without the extra chaos.
I shoot your wedding day in stills and motion simultaneously. Same eye. Same moments. Same story told two ways.
Wedding photography and videography coverage starts at $2,000.

Sarasota Wedding Venues I LovE
Sarasota has some of the best wedding venues on the Gulf Coast. A few that stand out for documentary photography:
The Ringling Museum — Venetian Gothic architecture, Sarasota Bay views, and the Ca' d'Zan mansion. One of the most photogenic venues in Florida.
Powel Crosley Estate — Mediterranean-style mansion on the water with manicured grounds and incredible ceremony backdrops.
Marie Selby Botanical Gardens — 15 acres of tropical gardens on the bay. Natural light everywhere.
Ritz-Carlton Sarasota — Private beach, sunset terrace, and luxury getting-ready spaces.
The Resort at Longboat Key — Beachfront ceremonies with Gulf Coast sunsets.
Edson Keith Mansion — Colonial Revival architecture at Phillippi Estate Park. Grand staircase, waterfront lawn, old Florida charm.
Sarasota Modern Hotel — Rooftop ceremonies with a modern downtown feel.
Whether you're getting married on Siesta Key, at a waterfront estate, or in a downtown Sarasota rooftop — I've got you covered.
Frequently Asked Questions
How far in advance should I book a Sarasota wedding photographer?
Most couples book 8–12 months out, especially for peak season (October through May in Florida). If your date is coming up sooner, reach out anyway — I may still have availability.
Do you travel for weddings?
Yes. I'm based in Sarasota and cover weddings throughout the Gulf Coast — Tampa, St. Petersburg, Bradenton, Lakewood Ranch, and beyond. Travel within the Sarasota/Tampa Bay area is included.
How many photos will I receive?
Collection One (4 hours) delivers approximately 400+ images. Collection Two (8 hours) delivers approximately 600+ images. Every image is individually tone-adjusted and color-corrected.
What does "documentary style" actually mean?
It means I photograph your wedding as it happens — without directing, staging, or interrupting the flow of your day. I focus on real moments, real emotions, and real interactions. You get photos that feel like your memories, not a magazine shoot.
Do I need a separate videographer?
Not necessarily. My hybrid approach combines photography and videography into one coverage package. You get both without hiring two separate vendors. If you want full multi-camera video with a dedicated videographer, I offer that as an add-on.
What's your delivery timeline?
Two weeks. Your complete edited gallery is delivered to a private online gallery within two weeks of your wedding day.
What if it rains?
Some of the best wedding photos happen in imperfect weather. I've shot hundreds of weddings in every condition. Rain, wind, humidity — none of it stops the moments from happening. And Florida golden hour light after a storm is unreal.
Do you offer payment plans?
Yes. A one-third retainer secures your date, with the remaining balance due before the wedding. Details are outlined in your proposal.
