Photo Location for Your Wychmere Beach Club Wedding

One of the best features the Wychmere Beach Club offers is all the photo locations. Regardless of the time of the day, there are always wedding photo locations that you'll love. The three photo locations that are my favorite when I photograph a wedding are the beach, the boardwalk, and the back lawn.

Beach Photos at Wychmere Beach Club:

The beach is always a favorite photo location at this venue. The best time of the day is during golden hour. The sun is low, and you can get all the portraits you need from a wedding at this private beach. It's a short walk from the venue, but it's well worth taking a break from your wedding reception and taking a few portraits. I do not recommend it during the middle of the day because the light can be harsh.

Boardwalk:

The boardwalk is an excellent location for your first look photos. It works well in the bright sun or on a cloudy day. There is a lack of shade at the Wychmere Beach Club, so a beach location in the middle of the day during a summer wedding can be tough to come by. I like the boardwalk for a first look because it has a beachy vibe. The sun backlights the couple, and it is a quiet and private location.

Family Photo Location:

The best location, in my opinion, at Wychmere Beach Club for family photos is in the parking lot in front of the hedges. This location gives subjects nice even light, and people are in the shade, so they will not be squinting in their photos. For most weddings I've photographed there, we have taken all the family photos in the middle of the afternoon with harsh sunlight.

History of the Wychmere Beach Club Wedding Venue

Wychmere Beach Club has a 117-year history on Cape Cod. From 1892 to 1993, the property housed the historic Snow Inn. The newer building is known as the Harbor House and was originally home to Thompson Clam Bar for decades. The club received new owners in 2010 and was renovated to its current aesthetic that contains both the original elegance and class of its legacy.

With about 20 beautiful acres across the Wychmere Harbor Chanel and Nantucket Sound, there is plenty to do and see among the property.

Initially, you could not cross directly to Wychmere Harbor to the sea, and it was known as Salt Water Pond. The fishermen of Harwich tried to create a passage by hand-digging a channel from the pond to the open water, but the result was less than desirable. It only made a tiny trickle of water. Instead, they filled the channel and built a ¾ mile race track around the pond for horse racing.

Eventually, in 1889, the state made a proper channel that measures 100-feet wide. Finally, the fishermen had the safe path they needed.

Two years later, Levi Edric Snow paid $250 for part of the land at the end of the west side of Salt Water Pond. It was there he built an eight-room cottage for his family. It was so popular that by the second summer there, he had built a 20-room addition and charged people rent to stay there.

In 1913, the cottage turned into a hotel and became a year-round business. When Levi's grandson Biddie married, he and his wife began running it. The couple had three sons that would become "The Clam Bar's 'Thompson Brothers.'" The boys, all over six feet tall, grew up at the hotel and lived in a residence that was built for them near the dock. They called it Hangover Inn or Spin' n Whittle.

After World War II, the family started an additional business. According to the website, "Line Net Trawlers began tying up at the dock to have their catch unloaded. Along with clams and lobsters, the fish were packed in ice and shipped to Boston and New York." The family expanded into the wholesale seafood business. This, of course, attracted onlookers who started to ask about buying the seafood from the dock, which created another company. They served freshly opened clams, and when retail sales grew to include lobsters, people started to ask for them to be cooked and prepared. Once again, the family went with the demand and transformed the Spit 'n Whittle into the restaurant that is known as the beloved Clam Bar.

This history is just a piece of what makes the Wychmere Beach Club weddings unique. It holds memories of a family going after their business dreams and making a name for themselves.

Conclusion

The Wychmere Beach Club is a piece of classic American style with a nautical ambiance. The setting around the club provides a simplistic seaside charm that will add so much to any wedding. Whether you want a sophisticated wedding or something more laidback, the Wychmere Beach Club can be everything for your wedding.
