Boston Wedding Venues: 2027 Prices, Capacity & Real Photos

86 venues · real starting prices · photographed first-hand at 72 of them

I’ve spent two decades photographing weddings in these rooms, the ballrooms, libraries, barns, and rooftops listed below. This guide covers the venues I actually work in, from grand reception halls (wedding halls, as half of Google calls them) and downtown reception venues to restaurant buyouts and lofts, with real starting prices, honest capacity numbers, and photographs from real wedding days, updated for couples planning 2027 dates. Every Boston wedding venue on this list gets the same honest treatment: what it costs, what it holds, and how it photographs.

And if you’re still choosing who will photograph it all, this is the work I do as a Boston wedding photographer, real moments in these exact rooms.

TL;DR, Boston Wedding Venues

  • 86 venues, real numbers: Every listing carries actual starting prices and honest guest capacities, gathered over two decades of photographing weddings in these rooms.
  • Every budget: The spectrum runs from site fees around $1,000 at boutique hotels to food-and-beverage minimums up to $125,000 at peak-season beach clubs.
  • Every guest count: From intimate restaurant dinners for a few dozen to rooms that hold up to about 900 guests, the capacity column narrows the field fast.
  • Every corner of the region: Downtown Boston and Cambridge through the North Shore and beyond, ballrooms, reception halls, estates, and restaurant buyouts included.
  • Start with my shortlist: If 86 feels like a lot, my ten favorites are just below, then book 12-18 months out for peak spring and fall dates.

Boston’s 10 Best Wedding Venues

Eighty-six venues is a lot to scroll, so here’s my shortlist: the ten I’d point you to first after two decades photographing weddings in these rooms. Each link jumps to the full card below.

  1. Boston Public Library — the courtyard is the best ceremony light in the city, and Bates Hall at night still stops me.
  2. Fairmont Copley Plaza — the Grand Ballroom’s mirrors and gilding do half my job for me; every wedding here looks like a film.
  3. State Room — thirty-third floor, harbor on one side, skyline on the other. Sunset here never misses.
  4. The Liberty Hotel — a former jail with a soaring atrium; the iron balconies give me angles no ballroom can.
  5. The Lenox Hotel — small, warm, and honest, and the roof deck has a full 360 of Boston.
  6. Artists for Humanity EpiCenter — south-facing glass, polished concrete, real art. The easiest ceremony light I shoot all year.
  7. Hammond Castle — a 1920s stone castle over the Atlantic; nothing else in New England photographs like it.
  8. Kimpton Marlowe — one wedding at a time, a courtyard for vows, and the Charles a short walk away.
  9. Four Seasons Boston — quiet luxury across from the Public Garden; vows inside, portraits under the willows.
  10. Misselwood Estate — ocean behind the ceremony and three private beaches for portraits. Worth the drive north.

Affordable Boston Wedding Venues

Not every great room in this city costs $30,000 before dinner, and some of my favorite weddings have happened at venues with four-figure site fees. Honestly, a tighter budget usually buys you better light and looser guests. If you’re planning a Boston wedding on a budget, these are the ones I’d tour first, each covered in full below:

The full comparison table lists every starting price on this page, so you can scan with your number in mind.

One more lever: dates. A Friday, Sunday, or off-peak month often cuts the same room’s price by thousands, and November through April is where a Boston budget stretches furthest.

Alcove is where I send couples planning a small Boston wedding with serious food. Tucked along the river at Lovejoy Wharf in the West End, steps from TD Garden and North Station, it’s a chef-driven coastal New England restaurant run by one of the city’s most respected restaurateurs, and it treats a forty-person wedding like the only event that matters. For a true restaurant buyout wedding, I haven’t found a warmer room in Boston, and of the Boston restaurant wedding venues on this page it’s the one I now send couples to first.

Boston wedding venue FAQs

How do we choose the right Boston wedding venue for us?
I always tell couples to lock in two things first, your rough guest count and the style you're after, because those quietly decide everything else. A grand room like the Boston Public Library or a tower view at the State Room feels very different from an intimate dinner at Mooo or Alcove, and the venue really does set the mood for the whole day. Once you know whether you want big and formal or small and laid-back, the list on this page gets a lot shorter fast.
How much do Boston wedding venues actually cost?
It's a wide range. From the listings I've gathered here, hotel ceremony and rental fees often start around $1,000–$3,500, mid-size spaces land in the low-to-mid five figures, and a high-end view venue like the State Room starts around $35,000 with food-and-beverage minimums of $50,000 and up, and peak-season beach clubs carry minimums as high as $125,000. Citywide, recent market estimates put a full Boston wedding somewhere in the mid-$40,000s once everything's added up. I'd always confirm current pricing and what's included directly with the venue, since these figures shift year to year.
How far in advance should we book our Boston venue?
For the popular spots, 12 to 18 months out is the realistic window, especially if you're eyeing a Saturday in May, June, September or October. Those peak weekends at places like the Fairmont Copley or the Liberty Hotel get claimed early. My honest tip: once your venue and date are set, book your photographer right after, good vendors fill the same calendar the venues do.
When is the best time of year to get married in Boston?
Late September into October is the classic favorite for the fall foliage, and June through September gives you the best shot at using outdoor spaces like the courtyards and harbor terraces. I also love a Boston winter wedding, the light is soft, the city is quiet, and a little snow makes for gorgeous unscripted photos. Each season shoots differently, so I plan timeline and light around whichever one you pick.
Which of these Boston venues photograph best?
Honestly, every venue on this list has something I can work with, but the standouts for me are the ones with great natural light and a view. The Artists for Humanity EpiCenter has huge south-facing windows that make ceremony light easy, the State Room and Lenox roof deck give you that skyline backdrop, and the Boston Public Library courtyard is a documentary photographer's dream. Since I shoot candidly rather than posing everything, I'm reading the room and the light all day no matter which space you choose.
Can you photograph and film our wedding at any of these venues?
Yes, I'm a one-vendor hybrid, so I cover both photo and video myself, which keeps your day calmer and your coverage consistent across whichever venue you pick. I've spent two decades documenting weddings across Boston and New England, so I know how these rooms light up and where the real moments tend to happen. Reach out at mark@mark-davidson.com or +1-440-915-3583 and tell me your venue and date, and I'll let you know if I'm open.
What's the biggest wedding venue in Boston?
The State Room at 60 State Street is the largest room on my list: 560 for dinner and dancing in the Great Room, 660 seated when the mezzanine opens up, and 900 to 1,200+ for a flowing cocktail-style reception. The Westin Copley Place runs to 600 for a ballroom reception. If you're planning something big, start with those two. Most Boston venues top out well below that, so a large guest list narrows your options fast.
Are there small or intimate wedding venues in Boston?
Plenty. The wine cellar at Mooo is about as intimate as it gets. The Oval Room at the Fairmont Copley Plaza works well for a smaller guest list, and the Alcott Ballroom and Press Room at the Omni Parker House are built for smaller counts. Alcove near North Station treats small weddings seriously. Small rooms often make for warmer photos, honestly.
Which Boston venues have a view of the city?
The State Room sits on the 33rd floor with 180-degree views of the harbor, the clocktower, and Faneuil Hall through 30-foot windows. The Lenox Hotel has a roof deck with a full 360 of Boston. The Omni Parker House rooftop ballroom is on the 15th floor with panoramic views, lovely during a sunset cocktail hour. Hotel Commonwealth has a terrace with the skyline behind it.
Can we have an outdoor ceremony in Boston?
Yes, though the options are specific. The Boston Public Library courtyard gives you greenery and those brick walls with carved pillars. Kimpton Marlowe in Cambridge has a courtyard and only hosts one wedding at a time. Hotel Commonwealth lets you set a ceremony on the terrace with Fenway Park behind you, and the Exchange Conference Center's Harbor Terrace puts the water at your back. Just have an indoor backup, this is New England.
Which Boston venues are good for a winter wedding?
The Liberty Hotel is a strong choice because the whole day can move from ceremony to cocktails to dinner without anyone stepping outside, the soaring atrium keeps everything under one roof. The Fairmont Copley Plaza and the Omni Parker House work the same way. Any venue where guests never have to step outside between ceremony, cocktails, and dinner will make a January date feel easy instead of grim.
Are there Boston venues that aren't hotels or ballrooms?
A few good ones. The Artists for Humanity EpiCenter in South Boston is an energy-sustainable event space that funds art and design training for teens, gallery walls for cocktail hour, a modern concert floor for dancing. The Boston Public Library is a library you can actually get married in. Alcove in the West End is a restaurant. They photograph differently, and that's the point.
Which Boston venue has the best natural light for a ceremony?
The Artists for Humanity EpiCenter, for my money. The south-facing windows fill the room, and their ceremony space seats 250. Any photographer will tell you a ceremony is easier when the light is that good, nobody's fighting a dark room. The Boston Public Library courtyard is lovely too if you want to be outside.
Can we stay at the venue the night of our wedding?
At the hotel venues, often yes. Kimpton Marlowe in Cambridge gives newlyweds complimentary accommodations on the evening of the wedding. The Fairmont Copley Plaza, the Lenox, Hotel Commonwealth, the Omni Parker House, and the Liberty are all hotels too, so you and your guests can just go upstairs. That's a real advantage at the end of a long day.
How late can our Boston reception go?
It depends on the venue, and end times vary more than couples expect. Ask each venue directly, and put the cutoff time on your question list right next to price and capacity. A venue that cuts the music at 10 changes the whole shape of your night, and the last hour is usually where the best photos happen.
Which Boston wedding venues have private ballrooms and full-service planning?
The big hotels are built for it. The Fairmont Copley Plaza, the Westin Copley Place, and the Omni Parker House all pair private ballrooms with in-house teams that coordinate the day end to end, and Boston Park Plaza walks couples through every stage of the planning process. If you want white-glove coordination with the ballroom to match, start with those four.
Are there Boston venues that can host the whole wedding weekend in one place?
The hotel properties handle it best, rehearsal dinner, ceremony, reception, and farewell brunch without anyone moving a car. The Hawthorne Hotel in Salem supports everything from the rehearsal dinner to the farewell brunch, and the Fairmont Copley, the Lenox, and Wentworth by the Sea keep guests, rooms, and events under one roof. Farther out, the Inn at the Round Barn Farm in Vermont gives couples exclusive use of the property for multi-day celebrations.
Which venues near Boston offer both indoor and outdoor ceremony options?
A lot of the estates are built exactly for that. Tupper Manor, Misselwood, and Willowdale on the North Shore pair lawns and terraces with a proper indoor backup, and Codman Estate and the Lyman Estate do the same closer to the city. In town, the Boston Public Library courtyard and Hotel Commonwealth's terrace give you an outdoor option with a grand room steps away. This is New England, so ask about the rain plan first, then fall in love with the lawn.
What do Boston wedding venue packages usually include?
It varies, which is why I list the structure next to each venue. Hotels usually quote a site or ceremony fee plus a per-person package, the Lenox, for example, runs a $3,500 site fee plus $199–$249 per person, while estates like Willowdale quote a site rental, a separate ceremony fee, and a food-and-beverage minimum. Always ask what the fee actually covers, tables, chairs, linens, staffing, and how service charges are added. That's where two similar quotes drift thousands apart.
Where can we host a rehearsal dinner or restaurant-buyout wedding in Boston?
Alcove at Lovejoy Wharf is my first call, a chef-driven room near North Station that treats small weddings seriously, and it's just as good for a rehearsal dinner. The wine cellar at Mooo is about as intimate as Boston gets. On the hotel side, the Omni Parker House has smaller rooms built for exactly this kind of night.
